TMU 103 TUSSLE "Eye Contact" 12" Sprung from San Francisco's active underground Mission district scene, Tussle have been causing a deserved stir for some time now with their unique combination of dance rhythms, elastic basslines, metallic textures, and low-fi electronic experimentation. Referencing-dub, disco, post-punk, German electronic music, early NYC schoolyard jams - even minimal techno - their sound lays the cacophony of the urban terrain overtop stripped down, propulsive rhythms to mesmerizing ends. Their debut release, the 12" single Eye Contact in stores June 24, will be followed by two further 12" singles, featuring remixes by Soft Pink Truth (Drew Daniel from Matmos), Barry 7 of Add N to (X), and Stuart Argabright (of Dominatrix and Death Comet Crew fame). Tussle will also be featured on a compilation of San Francisco underground music curated by artist Chris Johanson and released by Deitch Projects. The release of the compilation, which also features friends and neighbors Numbers, Deerhoof and Erase Errata, will correspond to a performance at Deitch Projects warehouse in Brooklyn July 11th. Having just released their debut single, the nascent group has received a phenomenal amount of recognition from international artists as varied as Trevor Jackson and Prefuse 73. The group will play sporadic dates on the East and West coasts throughout the summer and are planning a European tour in October. |
