Ghost Man On Second 2XCD

Second in their three-part series of meditations on Trees, Families, Nautical Exploration and John Fahey's Body [which] Lies A-Mouldering in the Grave, Currituck Co.'s GHOST MAN ON SECOND comprises two sections: "In Two Towards," regarding the search for Enlightenment through Dialogue; and "In Turn Returns," concerning the establishment of a human presence on the Moon and starting a Family (two ways of saying the same thing). Kevin Barker and Otto Hauser take up the noble rope left slack by the deaths of Sandy Bull and Billy Higgins (both of whom died in 2001, within a month of each other) and continue the musical Tug-O-War of the Righteous against the Wicked (the determination of sides is yours, fair reader. We say that Wikkid is Righteous, and the Righteous Brothers were Wicked, and moreover not brothers). The idea of pairs pervades this set, be it the pair of players, the pair of discs, or the fact that each song has its mate on the other disc, with the notable exception of the solo guitar piece "The Ark," which represents the Oneness of the journey, and the Wholeness of the vessel in which the pairs travel. The entire album in fact describes a fabled boat-trip, beginning with the creaking aged planks of our fair schooner, finding an intermission in Space as we change discs and aim our sights back to From-Where-We-Came, and ending quietly with a prayer for the love of Home to find us, and keep us safe.

We can say it no more succinctly than as follows:

To travel towards the setting Sun prolongs the Dusk
To pick apart a beating Heart dispels the Lust.
Embark to build the Ark
Noah, lonely Man
Travel in Two Towards
A warmer, drier Land.

End of transmission.
